The Trail is perfect for a short walk or a grand adventure. Now open, you are welcome to come and enjoy, it is free to enter and open all year round dawn until dusk.

There are many paths to explore and our three recommended routes are shown colour coded on the map. You can also follow the Trail on our App – download free from the App Store or Google Play.

Recommended routes:

Deepdene Garden Discovery (orange route)

Enter the enchanting Gardens at the heart of the Trail and be transported into an elegant and peaceful retreat. Discover how the estate has changed over time from the early gardens of Charles Howard, through Hope’s significant transformation and the impact of war.

Round Trip from Trail Start: approx. 0.7 miles, 30 – 40 minutes

Moderate walk on pavement paths and grass. Contains some steep slopes.

Temple, Terrace and Tragedy (combine the orange and purple route)

Add to the Garden Discovery Trail and climb through wooded pathways to the stunning views of the Terrace. Then venture south to Chart Park where you will uncover the tragic tale of the Hope Mausoleum – the hidden gem.

Round trip from The Trail start: approx. 2.2 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes – 2 hours

Moderate hike on pavement, gravel paths and grass. Contains steep slopes, sturdy shoes recommended.

Explore the Estate (combine the orange, purple and blue route)

Meander through woodland on hilltops and valleys on the wider Trail and discover the Deepdene as it was at its peak. Along the way discover dramatic castle ruins and the pretty, historic, village of Brockham.

Round trip from The Trail Start: approx. 9 miles, 4 – 5 hours

Challenging walk on pavement, gravel paths and grass. Contains steep slopes, sturdy shoes recommended.
